Community care

Elderly people and people with physical, sensory and/or mental disabilities

The Social Services Committee, on the basis of an assessment, can offer the elderly and people with physical, sensory and/or mental disabilities different types of care and support to live as independently as possible. These services include home care, meal delivery, special alarm units and day centres. Sometimes the services available are not sufficient for the customer to continue living in his/her own home in which case special housing can be offered after the results of an assessment.

Home care

The elderly and people with physical, sensory and/or mental disabilities can be in need of support in the form of personal assistance and home care in their own homes. Applications are registered with a social services handling officer after which an assessment is carried out. There is a means-tested charge for these services.

Meal delivery

The elderly and people with physical, sensory and/or mental disabilities have the possibility to receive lunch delivered to their home for a small fee. This service is based on assessment and your application can be registered with a social services handling officer.

Special alarm unit

The elderly and people with physical, sensory and/or mental disabilities who live at home or in council housing can be entitled to a special alarm unit for a small fee. This enables you to be in touch with staff around the clock. This service is based on assessment and your application can be registered with a social services handling officer.

Community transport

For those who have mobility issues meaning they cannot use the public transport system, we have a community transport service. Community transport involves taxi, bus or a combination of the two.

Day centres and rehabilitation

Day centres for the elderly and people with physical, sensory and/or mental disabilities with special needs in terms of support, training and rehabilitation are situated at the residential home ’Blå Porten’ and your application can be registered with a social services handling officer. Pensioner and voluntary organisations organise open day centres for the elderly at ‘Blå Porten’ with different social activities and a café.

Housing services

When the elderly and people with physical, sensory and/or mental disabilities need extensive care and support it may not be possible to remain living at home, in which case after an assessment, the municipality can offer special housing such as temporary accommodation, care homes and residential homes.
In these types of housing, greater access and proximity to care and support services is available if and when needed. These special housing options incur a means-tested fee. The individual signs a rental contract for the flat and pays the rent and food charge.

For those who are eligible, a housing benefit is available.

Application for special housing and assessment can be registered with a social services handling officer.

Carer support

Carer support provides assistance to carers who look after relatives and friends. They can talk about their situation or find out how to get help or relief, and which voluntary organisations, associations and study circles are available.

Befriending scheme

As a complement to home care, a voluntary social contact and support service is available primarily to the elderly. Through our befriending scheme, the elderly have the chance to meet and talk at home, go for walks or to the doctor. Our befriending scheme consists of people who are active members of the Church of Sweden, the Red Cross and pensioner organisations.
