Cultural services office
We work with cultural issues such as cultural events for children, small and big events such as our yearly Söderköping Music and Dance Street Festival, New Year’s celebrations and national Day events, programmes and exhibitions at Stinsen - our library and tourist office - contributions to study associations, seminars and culture projects, amongst other things.
Cultural events for children
The children’s culture group comprising pre-school teachers, teachers and the cultural secretary strive towards an inspiring and varied range of cultural activities for children of all ages. Theatre visits, concerts and cinema shows in pre-schools and schools are organised. All children from the age of 2 and throughout their school life are invited to experience different types of cultural activities each year.
Art exhibitions
Gallery ’Rådhuset ’ housed in the old town hall, is the hub of Söderköping’s artistic community with exhibitions of different art societies such as ’blandArt’, ’Söderköping’s Art Association’, and ’Gröna Galleriets Vänner’. blandArt has an art boutique housed in the old town hall which is open all year round. Bottna Arts and Crafts Café also arranges different evening programmes.
Söderköping Music and Dance Street Festival
This big music and culture event gathers together about 500 performers who deliver everything from brass band, folk music, rock and steel pans, to Latvian folk dance, line dance and Swedish ballads. Söderköping’s mediaeval town centre bustles with exciting performances, all free of charge and all performed voluntarily.
Culture prize och Culture grant
Every year the municipality awards a culture prize to a person or association who has made an exceptional contribution to cultural life in Söderköping. For young, promising, cultural talent a grant of 5 000 SEK is awarded. In memory of the artist Tord Kempe (1926 – 2005), there is a grant available to artists who work in the same spirit as he did.
