Environment and public health is a part of the Town Planning Office under the Municipal Executive Board and is located in the civic offices. Decisions about environment and public health matters are handled by the Building and Environment Committee. On this website you can find application forms and registration documents you need in this area.
Food
The Environment and Public Health Office monitors the quality of provisions at municipal food facilities, gives advice and recommendations for food handling as well as issues authorizations and registrations. In the authorization examination, an assessment is carried out of the entire operation such as their premises, autonomous monitoring and knowledge. The law stipulates that all food facilities shall be authorized or registered with the Building and Environment Committee. To run a food facility without registration or authorization is against the law.
During the yearly environmental and public health inspection, a focus is put on the way enterprises in the food business monitor their own operations, known as autonomous monitoring.
Animal protection
The municipality is obliged to ensure that all animals in the municipality are cared for according to the Animal Protection Act. Surveillance of pets like dogs and cats is often caused through a report being received.
Environmental protection
In accordance with the Swedish Environmental Code, we monitor environmentally-threatening operations, cisterns, streams, air, noise, chemicals, littering and hazardous waste. The Environment and Public Health Office also manages applications before operations which are harmful to the environment or heat pump facilities begin.
Radon
Radiation from radon in homes is a serious problem. If the average annual radon level is more than 200 Bq/m3 you can apply for a contribution from the County Administrative Board. Drinking water from deep wells can also contain radon. Please contact the Environment and Public Health Office if you would like to measure your home’s radon levels.
Indoor environments
The Environment and Public Health Office is responsible for the indoor environments of public spaces such as teaching, care and living quarters in addition to camping sites, bathing areas and beauty treatments (hairdressers, acupuncturists, etc.).
Water and sewage
The Environment and Public Health Office can assist you with advice and sample bottles when a problem with drinking water arises. We also authorize permission for your own sewage facilities. You can find forms and instructions on this website or at the office.
