Civil Protection
Our operations are regulated by the Civil Protection Act and our goal is to promote a safe and secure environment for those that live and visit our municipality. We do this by taking measures to prevent fires and other accidents. The majority of our preventative work involves informing and educating all levels of the community to create an understanding and provide an insight into the risks involved and how we can prevent and handle incidents. When an accident does happen we are responsible for all efforts to limit injuries and damages to people, property and the environment.
In order to continuously improve our work, we investigate the reason, course of events and implementation of our efforts to then apply possible changes in planning and organisation with the goal of better protection against accidents. During the daytime you can find the Chief Fire Officer and the Deputy Head as well as operations technicians at the Fire Station in Söderköping. We are here to help you with any questions you may have about safety. You are very welcome to come and visit us.
There are 3 fire stations in the municipality located in the population centres of Söderköping, Bottna and Östra Ryd. All stations are manned by part-time fire-fighters who shall be on location within 5 minutes of receiving an alarm. The team in Söderköping consists of 3 officers and 8 fire-fighters. On assignment from the County Council of Östergötland, we perform emergency care in Bottna and Östra Ryd to quickly respond to a patient’s needs before the ambulance arrives.

Chimney sweeping
In the Municipality of Söderköping, chimney sweeping and fire protection checks are performed by the company Söderköpings Sotning & Ventilation AB on assignment from the municipality. Their operations are also performed in accordance with the Civil Protection Act. In addition to agency assignments, the company works with the filming of smoke and ventilation channels and building foundations, smoke pressure tests of fireplaces and chimneys, ventilation cleaning and obligatory ventilation testing (OVK). Other tasks include rubbish bin, rubbish chute and tumble dryer cleaning; ventilation leakage measurements in houses and flats; asbestos decontamination; and ozone decontamination. The Fire and Rescue Service processes the municipality’s chimney sweeping errands.
