The operation and maintenance of streets and parks is outsourced. Streets and facilities are handled by Befab Markteknik AB and parks and green areas are managed by Svensk Markservice AB. The contractors perform jobs such as lawn-mowing, street- cleaning, snow–ploughing and repairs. The year-round operation and maintenance of the E22 highway and Östra Rydsvägen A-road is performed by the Swedish Road Administration. Within the municipal procurement organisation, there are two inspectors and one service report identifying deficiencies and measures which need to be taken.
Traffic safety
The Technical Services Office works continually with making Söderköping a safer and more pleasant town for all its residents and visitors. We take measurements, perform research and carry out reconstruction to create the safest and most pleasant traffic environment possible.
Parking
Many years ago, in the centre of town we introduced an initiative called ’Positive parking’ which means that all parking spaces are marked with a blue parking sign. There are two large, centrally-located car parks called ‘P-kanal väst’ and ‘P-centrum syd’ (Stinsen) which are open all year-round. In the summer season there are another three car parks available for passenger cars: ‘P-kanal öst’ at Berga School; ‘P-centrum väst’ at Nyströmska School; and finally Vikingavallen’s gravel pitch. The summer season also sees the opening of the caravan park next to Ramunder School’s sports hall. Long-term parking can be organised by calling the tourist office in the Stinsen building.
Rubbish collection
Söderköping was one of the first municipalities in Sweden to introduce waste sorting for the entire community. We sort 9 fractions and provide kerb-side collection every 14 days where the household places the waste by their gate and the contractor Allren AB collects the material. In the archipelago, there are 9 refuse disposal points with waste sorting on different islands and waste reception stations at the harbours. Allren AB performs the waste collection duties from the islands.
There are two recycling stations where all waste is sorted, one located at Allren AB on Tenngatan and the other at Hjelmsborg’s tip on Östra Rydsvägen in Bleckstad. Solvents, waste oil, corrosive substances, photo chemicals, pesticides, car batteries, fluorescent lamps, etc. are either collected according to a schedule or can be taken to Allren AB’s facilities on Telegatan 3.
